As we walk with the Lord, it seems that there are times that we are standing on the mountain top, and then there are times which we feel like we are at the lowest point of Death Valley. And many times, we don’t even know what hit us. It seems like the enemy comes in like a flood, and we have no idea of what to do. This kind of situation is expressed in the prayer of Jehoshaphat when the Ammonites, Moabites, and their friends were coming against Judah.
In 2 Chronicles 20, he cries out to God and says, “For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
We, as Christians, have a different army that is fighting against us.
NLT bible puts it this way in Ephesians 6:12: ¨For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.¨
In and of ourselves, we cannot have victory over this great multitude. But because of the One that lives inside of us, the battle is won.
Listen to what God spoke through the prophet Jahaziel. ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
He goes on to say, “Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”
In life, there will be times in which things will seem like they are falling apart. We will all experience times in which we will not know what to do. But here is what we know: He is with us!
And may the fact that “He is with us” become to us more than just a nice little statement that would look good on a plaque. My prayer is that it would become a practical reality in your life. Set yourselves to seek the Lord. As the Psalmist declared, Be still and know that He is God.
